Chicago Musical, London, Phoenix Theater, 17th May 2018

My most recent trip to London has been full of amazing theater and stagey things, which made it absolutely awesome. And the best way to start this short vacation was to visit one of my most favorite musicals ever – “Chicago” for which return to London I am eternally grateful.

Sunset Boulevard UK Tour, Carre Theatre, Amsterdam

I knew I would want to visit the tour of Sunset Boulevard at some point of it’s journey, but I could never imagined that it will land here in Amsterdam, literally 15 mins away from my doorstep. Naturally I ended up booking myself a visit, especially having those wonderful memories from the London production 2 years back (about it here)

Overtures that send shiver down my spine

Here’s my 153d attempt to come back to the regular blogging, so I decided to talk to you about musicals overtures. When I started to make this list surprisingly most of my favourite musicals did not make it, maybe because, for example “Kinky Boots” or “Once” or “Women on the Verge” or “Billy Elliot” do not have somewhat formal overtures and the action starts right away. But for me beautifully written musical overture plays very important part in the whole experience as it sets the right mood straight away. So, here it goes, in no particular order – most epic and beautiful musicals overtures for me (links to listen are included)

Kinky Boots, 15th and 17th April

I have decided to try and come back to somewhat regular blogging and also finally compose something about my current favourite show on West End – Kinky Boots. (Yeah, 1.5 years after first visit, better late then never).

This Easter weekend I planned only one visit, but somehow it transformed into two. Well, it’s never enough, especially when you are living in another country.

I do not want to write too much about the show, since I have seen it quite a lot of times already and it’s hard to describe all details. But each and every time I feel like I am loving it more and more for the great story, uplifting music, beautiful cast and just in general atmosphere of joy and happiness, which make me smile like fool for whole two hours of the show.

Wicked, Alhambra Theatre, Bradford,23-24.07.2016

Return to Wicked musical for me is like meeting a very old friend, whom you used to be very close with, but somehow lost touch. That was precisely me feelings, when I saw the familiar Dragon Clock stage and looked at the map of the Oz. Wicked used to be the first choice of the show for me in London, but somehow I visited much less lately. So, the only UK stop of new international tour of Wicked was the perfect opportunity to reinvent the story.

Tanz Der Vampire, Theatre Stage Des Westens, Berlin, 20.07.2016

Suche mit mir den schwarzen Gral.
Ich lehr dich, was es heißt zu lieben.
Lös die Fesseln der Moral.
Folge deinen verborgnen Trieben!

God only knows, how long I was waiting for this trip to see my favorite vampires taking over Berlin one more time. As soon as I learnt that the production would open in Germany once again, I knew that somehow I must go and see it. And as soon as there was announced that Jan Ammann is taking over as Graf Von Krolock in summer, I just could not wait more.

Exclusevening with Willemijn Verkaik, 06.06.2016

There are definitely some days that make you feel very proud and grateful for the experiences you receive. For sure the Exclusevening was one of these days.

Now, what is the Exclusevening? This is a very special event organized by amazing Diana, who runs Willemijn Fansite. And during this event people get a chance to meet and chant with Willemijn herself and according to the words of Willemijn it allows her to “show appreciation” for all dedicated and supportive fans.

Sunset Boulevard, London Colliseum, 2d and 25th April

I may be too emotional writing this review, but it’s not every day one of your childhood dreams come true. Well, seeing Sunset Boulevard live on stage was one of mine, ever since I have watched the video of Andrew Lloyd Webber 50th Birthday Celebration, where magnificent and epic Glenn Close performed two main songs from that musical. And now, almost 15 years since I first saw that video – I got to see this musical on stage (thank you, English National Opera) with still magnificent Glenn Close.

I managed to see it twice, despite the high tickets prices, because I strongly believe that events like this is an opportunity of a life time, that does not happen often. If ever.

My top favorite musical songs

After creating a post on my My top 10 favorite musicals I have decided to dig a little bit deeper and think about musical theater songs. Of course, I would never be able to choose only 10, so after various lists and thinking, I choose 30 of my favorite musical theater songs. In no particular order. I tried to collect as much youtube links as possible, but some songs are not available there. I tried to choose videos of my favorite performance of that song. Continue reading
